A bone fracture is not always obvious. All fractures must be addressed with professional care as soon as possible. Without proper attention, the risk of additional injury increases. Visit your nearest urgent care provider so the general practitioner can set the bone to be in proper place, pacing the way for healing.

When to Call for Emergency Assistance:
Call 9-1-1 immediately when the neck, spine, or head is injured. If you’re not sure where the fracture is located and moving the injured person is too painful, wait for emergency responders. You should consider a broken bone to be an emergency when the following occur:
- Compound Fractures (broken bones puncture skin)
- Individual is Unresponsive
- Heavy Bleeding is Present
- Deformed Limb or Joint
An important part of dealing with an emergency is your mentality. It’s important for you or the injured individual to stay calm, and to know they will be getting help soon. When responders arrive, they can better resolve the issue when their questions can be answered.
What You Can Do
The most immediate concern with a broken bone is discomfort, making it crucial to call your primary care physician for directions. They will be able to answer questions and recommend what steps to take next to minimize discomfort.
Apply ice to the area for 15 minutes at a time, with five-minute breaks in between. Administer pain medication as directed, and try to maximize comfort. Repeat these steps as often as necessary.
